Neighbourhood improvements
BNG fund Neighbourhood Improvements within neighbourhoods of mainly private housing that are identified by the Council as needing regeneration and investment. Each house within the area is then surveyed by someone appointed by the councils to see what type of improvement is required, and this can include re-pointing, cleaning brickwork, improving boundary walls or painting through to replacing doors, windows and roofs. Depending on the scale and type of works, the cost to the owner will either be nothing, or a percentage contribution to the total costsIn Newcastle these are either refered to as Neighbourhood Renewal Areas or Neighbourhood Improvement Areas.
In Gateshead, Neighbourhood Improvements of this type are generally referred to as Block Improvement Schemes (BIS) as improvements are carried out to specific blocks of properties at the same time and with consistent design features.
